Want to know how to stay motivated and keep working out this winter? Then let’s get started:

Make it social

One great way to keep your fitness regime on track, even in the winter is to make exercising a social event. So arrange to meet a friend to go for a walk, a swim or to join in a class – you won’t want to let them down – so you’ll keep motivated.

Embrace the wonders of winter

Embrace the beauty of the season and step into a winter wonderland. Plan walks which make the most of the seasonal landscape. With the leaves off the trees, now’s the time to enjoy vistas and views you won’t see at any other time of the year.

Try something new

There’s nothing like the drudgery of going to the gym every day – especially if you really don’t want to, so ring the changes and try out something new. So whether there’s a dance class you’d like to join or a different piece of fitness equipment you’d like to try, give it a go.

Keep track of your achievements

Whether you have an app on your phone, a fit bit, keep a written diary or utilise a pedometer, keeping track of your achievements will keep you motivated. The more you achieve, the more you’ll want to keep it up.

Make it easy

Make exercising as easy, convenient and straightforward as you can. Don’t make exercising difficult for yourself or it’s the first thing you’ll give up on when you’ve had a difficult day. Work exercise into your everyday life if you can, so it’s not something you have to bolt on at the end of the day when you’re tired. To keep up momentum, keep it easy. A walk in your local neighbourhood or as part of your journey to work might fit the bill.

Workout at home

Try warming up at home before you head out for a walk or run. Alternatively, if you really can’t face heading out into the cold, explore the ways you could exercise at home from following an online fitness video to investing in a piece of gym equipment, running up and down the stairs or dancing to your favourite music.

Work towards a goal

Keep a goal in mind to keep you motivated. So whether you want to wear a favourite dress to a key event or to better your 10k time, give yourself a goal to work towards – then reward yourself when you reach it.

Forgive yourself

Didn’t exercise today? Forgive yourself and move on. Simply start the next day afresh. If you’ve got out of the way of exercising for a while, then build it up again gently. Anything is better than nothing. You’ll be amazed at how good a short gentle walk will make you feel.

So there you have a few ideas on how to keep up your fitness regime this winter. Make it easy, keep it social and reward your achievements.
